About the dimensions

Aerodrome layouts follow the rules of the national authority and the standards of the aviation organisations, not a drawing standard. The aircraft use typical length and wingspan values of each type, the code letters follow the aerodrome reference code (A to F by wingspan), and the equipment uses typical sizes of common machine classes. Check the manufacturer's data and the rules that apply to your airport before you fix a layout.

The blocks are our own drawings, not copies of any manufacturer's catalogue, and the library is not certified. They help to arrange stands, equipment and terminal rooms, count items and check space on a drawing; they do not show that a layout meets the aerodrome rules, wing tip clearances, safety areas or security requirements. Dashed outlines are envelopes for planning, not certified safety areas.

Which items are in the library?

Aircraft, stands and helicopters, ground support equipment, terminal and passenger processing, baggage handling, airfield markings and aids, and layout markers. The page above lists every group with its count.

How do I check which aircraft fit a stand?

Place the aircraft block on the stand block of the same code letter and look at the dashed envelope. The aircraft blocks have the CODE_LETTER and SPAN_M attributes, the stand blocks have MAX_WINGSPAN_M and WINGTIP_CLEARANCE_M, so BlockSync can export both for a check in Excel. Confirm the clearances against the rules of your airport.

Can I use the symbols in commercial projects?

Yes. They are free to use and modify in your own projects, including commercial ones. They are provided as is, without warranty.

Are the aircraft exact?

No. They are plan outlines at the typical length and wingspan of each type, with engine positions and sweep close to the real aircraft, but they are not manufacturer drawings. They are good for apron and terminal planning; use the manufacturer's airport planning data for the final turning, jet blast and clearance checks.

Can I change a symbol or add attributes?

Yes. Open the DWG, edit a block with BEDIT to change it or add attributes, and save. To update drawings that already contain the block, run ATTSYNC or replace the block. Make a backup first: attribute values can be lost if ATTSYNC is used carelessly.

Where do I find a ready-made set of these symbols for AutoCAD?

AutoCAD itself ships only a small set of sample blocks, so a full symbol set has to come from a library. Download the ZIP on this page and open the DWG: every symbol is a block. Insert one with INSERT (Blocks palette, Libraries tab, then pick the DWG) or drag it from DesignCenter (ADCENTER). You can also download a single symbol on its own.
