About the standard

The numbers (E, F, M, P and W for safe condition, fire equipment, mandatory, prohibition and warning signs), the meanings and the shapes and colours of each category follow the registered safety signs (ISO 7010): green squares for safe conditions, red squares for fire equipment, blue discs for mandatory actions, red rings with a bar for prohibitions and yellow triangles for warnings. Signs that the standard lists as withdrawn or in preparation are not included, apart from the two direction arrows.

The pictograms are our own simplified drawings, not the original artwork, and the library is not certified. It is meant for plans, schedules and legends. For the signs that are put up in a building or on a machine, use the signs from your supplier or the registered originals, and check the rules that apply to your project for sizes, colours, photoluminescent materials and placement.

Which signs are in the library?

110 signs in five groups: 17 safe condition signs, 6 fire equipment signs, 26 mandatory action signs, 32 prohibition signs and 29 warning signs. The page above lists every sign with its reference number.

Can I print these signs and put them up?

They are made for drawings: plans, schedules and legends. A real sign has to meet the size, colour, material and visibility rules of your site, and it is best bought from a supplier or made from the registered originals. Use this library to show where the signs go, not as the artwork for the signs themselves.

Can I use the symbols in commercial projects?

Yes. They are free to use and modify in your own projects, including commercial ones. They are provided as is, without warranty.

Why are the signs on colour layers, and will they plot in colour?

A safety sign means something by its colour, so each sign is made of solid colour fills on its own layers. They plot in colour with a colour plot style. If you plot with a monochrome style the signs turn black and white; they stay recognisable, but you lose the colour meaning, so use a colour style for safety plans.

Can I change a symbol or add attributes?

Yes. Open the DWG, edit a block with BEDIT to change it or add attributes, and save. To update drawings that already contain the block, run ATTSYNC or replace the block. Make a backup first: attribute values can be lost if ATTSYNC is used carelessly.

Where do I find a ready-made set of these symbols for AutoCAD?

AutoCAD itself ships only a small set of sample blocks, so a full symbol set has to come from a library. Download the ZIP on this page and open the DWG: every symbol is a block. Insert one with INSERT (Blocks palette, Libraries tab, then pick the DWG) or drag it from DesignCenter (ADCENTER). You can also download a single symbol on its own.
