About the sizes

There is no single standard for how a data centre or server room is laid out. The 19-inch faceplate and the 1 U height are the usual rack convention, and the other sizes are typical working sizes, for example a 600 x 1200 mm rack or a 600 x 600 mm floor tile; they differ by manufacturer and country. Cooling capacity, power, floor loading, aisle widths, cable separation and fire protection come from the product data sheets and the rules that apply to your site, so take them from those and not from the block sizes.

The blocks are our own drawings, simplified to what matters on a plan or an elevation, and the library is not certified. It is meant to lay out a room and document racks, not to prove that a design meets electrical, fire, cooling or building rules. Check the data sheets of the equipment you choose and the regulations in your country, and have the final layout reviewed by a competent person.

Which items are in the library?

Can I build an equipment schedule from the rack elevations?

Yes. Every device block has U_HEIGHT, U_POSITION, RACK_ID, POWER_W, WEIGHT_KG, SERIAL_NO and ASSET_TAG. Fill them in, export with BlockSync and you get a list by rack and U position, with the power and weight total per rack. The values in the blocks are empty on purpose, because they depend on the product you buy.

Can I use the symbols in commercial projects?

Yes. They are free to use and modify in your own projects, including commercial ones. They are provided as is, without warranty.

Do the blocks follow a data centre design standard?

No. They are typical sizes and the common 19-inch rack convention. Cooling, power, loading, aisle width and fire protection are set by your site rules and by the data sheet of the product, so check them before you fix a layout, then move or copy the blocks to fit.

Can I change a symbol or add attributes?

Yes. Open the DWG, edit a block with BEDIT to change it or add attributes, and save. To update drawings that already contain the block, run ATTSYNC or replace the block. Make a backup first: attribute values can be lost if ATTSYNC is used carelessly.

Where do I find a ready-made set of these symbols for AutoCAD?

AutoCAD itself ships only a small set of sample blocks, so a full symbol set has to come from a library. Download the ZIP on this page and open the DWG: every symbol is a block. Insert one with INSERT (Blocks palette, Libraries tab, then pick the DWG) or drag it from DesignCenter (ADCENTER). You can also download a single symbol on its own.
