About the dimensions

Road design follows the manual of your country and road authority, not a drawing standard: lane widths, kerb radii, markings and signs differ between countries and road classes. The blocks use typical values (a 3.65 m lane, 10 m kerb radius, 2.5 x 5 m bay, 2.55 m wide truck) and generic sign faces. Check your national manual before you fix a design.

The blocks are our own drawings, not copies of any road manual, vehicle maker's catalogue or national sign set, and the library is not certified. They help to arrange roads, junctions, parking and street furniture, count items and check space on a drawing; they do not show that a design meets the sight distance, geometry, marking or sign rules of your road authority.

Which items are in the library?

Can I use the vehicles for a swept path check?

For a first look, yes: place the design vehicle block at the corner and compare the turning circle with the kerb. Use the swept path analysis of your road design software for the final check, because it follows the real articulation and steering of the vehicle.

Can I use the symbols in commercial projects?

Yes. They are free to use and modify in your own projects, including commercial ones. They are provided as is, without warranty.

Are the traffic signs the signs of my country?

No. They are generic faces (warning triangle, give way, stop, prohibition, mandatory, information) with common legends, useful for showing where a sign goes. Replace the face with the sign of your national set in the final drawings.

Can I change a symbol or add attributes?

Yes. Open the DWG, edit a block with BEDIT to change it or add attributes, and save. To update drawings that already contain the block, run ATTSYNC or replace the block. Make a backup first: attribute values can be lost if ATTSYNC is used carelessly.

Where do I find a ready-made set of these symbols for AutoCAD?

AutoCAD itself ships only a small set of sample blocks, so a full symbol set has to come from a library. Download the ZIP on this page and open the DWG: every symbol is a block. Insert one with INSERT (Blocks palette, Libraries tab, then pick the DWG) or drag it from DesignCenter (ADCENTER). You can also download a single symbol on its own.
