About the sizes

There is no single standard for these items. The sizes are typical working sizes, for example a 1.2 x 2.3 m free stall, a 0.65 x 2.2 m sow stall or a 3.6 x 3.6 m horse box, and they differ by supplier and country. The space each animal must have, and the widths of passages and gates, are set by the animal welfare and building rules that apply to your farm, so take them from those rules and not from the block sizes.

The blocks are our own drawings, simplified to what matters on a plan, and the library is not certified. It is meant to lay out a farm, not to prove that a layout meets welfare, hygiene or safety rules. Check the data sheet of the equipment you choose and the regulations that apply to your animals and your country.

Which items are in the library?

Cattle housing and milking parlours, cattle handling, pig pens and houses, poultry houses and fittings, horse boxes and stable blocks, sheep and goat handling, silos, bunkers and slurry stores, bales, machinery, farm buildings, gates and fences, and 3 layout markers. The page above lists every group with its count.

Do the blocks give the space each animal needs?

No. The blocks are typical sizes. The space per animal depends on the species, weight, system and the welfare rules in your country, so check the rules before you fix a pen size, then stretch or copy the block to fit.

Can I use the symbols in commercial projects?

Yes. They are free to use and modify in your own projects, including commercial ones. They are provided as is, without warranty.

Where are fences, trees and paths?

General site items such as paths, trees and planting are in the landscape library, and building outlines with doors and walls are in the architectural plan library. This library adds the farm-specific housing, equipment and storage.

Can I change a symbol or add attributes?

Yes. Open the DWG, edit a block with BEDIT to change it or add attributes, and save. To update drawings that already contain the block, run ATTSYNC or replace the block. Make a backup first: attribute values can be lost if ATTSYNC is used carelessly.

Where do I find a ready-made set of these symbols for AutoCAD?

AutoCAD itself ships only a small set of sample blocks, so a full symbol set has to come from a library. Download the ZIP on this page and open the DWG: every symbol is a block. Insert one with INSERT (Blocks palette, Libraries tab, then pick the DWG) or drag it from DesignCenter (ADCENTER). You can also download a single symbol on its own.
