Attributes for parts lists

Every block carries a tag you can number and invisible attributes for the equipment list. A vessel holds ITEM_TYPE, SIZE, CAPACITY_HL, MATERIAL, DESIGN_PRESSURE_BAR and JACKETED; a machine holds SIZE, POWER_KW, FLOW_M3H and MATERIAL; furniture and markers hold ITEM_TYPE and SIZE. Manufacturer, model, quantity and remarks are on every equipment block.

Export the blocks of a layout to Excel with BlockSync to get an equipment list with tank capacities, powers and quantities, check the tags and write the corrections back in one run, with preview and backup.

How to use the library

  1. Unzip the file and open the DWG. Copy the symbols you need into your plan, or drag the blocks in from DesignCenter (ADCENTER).
  2. The blocks are drawn at real size in millimetres, 1 drawing unit = 1 mm. If your drawing is in metres, insert them with a scale of 0.001. A 20 hL fermenter is 1250 mm across on the plan, a pallet rack bay 2700 x 1100.
  3. Vessels are drawn from above and centred on their middle, so you snap them onto a grid of tank centres. Rectangular equipment is centred with its operating side towards the bottom of the drawing. The names carry the capacity in hectolitres and the diameter or footprint in millimetres, so a size can be read without opening the block.
  4. Zones are dashed outlines without any fill: hot and cold side, wet and dry areas, a bonded area, explosive atmosphere circles of 1 and 3 m, a bund and a maintenance clearance. Put them on their own layer and switch them off for the plot. Flow arrows show beer, wine, spirit, CIP, glycol, steam and grain.

About the drawings

There is no standard for the drawings of brewery, winery and distillery layouts. The blocks follow the common practice of production drawings: a tank as a circle with its manway and outlet, a still as a pot with its condenser, a rotary filler as a ring of heads.

The blocks are our own drawings, not copies, and the library is not certified. The sizes are common planning values for craft producers; fire, explosive atmosphere, excise, bonded storage and food hygiene rules depend on your local authority, so check them and the data sheet of the equipment you specify.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the blocks in a drawing in metres?
Yes. The blocks are in millimetres, so insert them with a scale of 0.001 (or set the block unit conversion); a 1250 mm fermenter then measures 1.25 units on a drawing in metres. In a drawing in millimetres they come in at 1:1.
Which tank sizes are included?
Fermenters and bright tanks from 5 to 120 hL, mash lauter tuns and kettles from 5 to 50 hL, liquor tanks of 10 and 30 hL, horizontal tanks of 20, 50 and 100 hL, wine tanks from 10 to 200 hL, pot stills from 300 to 5000 L, and silos of 2000, 2500 and 3000 mm.
Can I use the symbols in commercial projects?
Yes. They are free to use and modify in your own projects, including commercial ones. They are provided as is, without warranty. Please do not redistribute or resell the library; see the library terms.
Is the library only for large plants?
No. The sizes start at a 5 hL pilot brewhouse and a 300 L pot still and go up to mid-size production, which fits craft breweries, small wineries and craft distilleries, with the taproom or cellar door in the same drawing.
Can I change a symbol or add attributes?
Yes. Open the DWG, edit a block with BEDIT to change it or add attributes, and save. To update drawings that already contain the block, run ATTSYNC or replace the block. Make a backup first: attribute values can be lost if ATTSYNC is used carelessly.
Where do I find a ready-made set of these symbols for AutoCAD?
AutoCAD itself ships only a small set of sample blocks, so a full symbol set has to come from a library. Download the ZIP on this page and open the DWG: every symbol is a block. Insert one with INSERT (Blocks palette, Libraries tab, then pick the DWG) or drag it from DesignCenter (ADCENTER). You can also download a single symbol on its own.
