Drop in a folder, pick DWG or DXF and the oldest AutoCAD release that has to open the result, and every drawing is converted. A report lists anything that could not be carried over. Free, unlimited, and nothing leaves your PC.
Windows · No AutoCAD needed · Free
Four drawings converted to DXF 2000: three with notes in the report, one clean.

The problem
A client on an older AutoCAD cannot open your drawings, a supplier sends DXF files, a machine or another CAD program wants DXF, and converting means opening and saving every file by hand, or uploading confidential drawings to an online converter with a size limit.
Send a 60-drawing project to a client who still runs AutoCAD 2010
The AutoCAD way
Open each drawing → SAVEAS → pick the 2010 format → save into a new folder → repeat 60 times.
With DwgConvert
Add the project folder → choose DWG 2010 → convert. The folder structure is kept.
Free — and the report shows anything that did not carry over.
Estimates for an experienced user, taken from the example scenarios on each product page. Actual times depend on drawing size, hardware and file count.
How DwgConvert works
These are the tabs inside the actual app, in the order they appear — every screenshot below is a real, unedited capture of DwgConvert running.
Choose files, choose a format, convert
Add drawings or whole folders, pick the target format and version, and convert. Your originals are never changed; the converted copies go next to them or into a folder you choose.
- 1Add Files… or Add Folder… (or drop files and folders onto the window). A folder is searched for DWG and DXF files, subfolders included unless you untick Include subfolders.
- 2Under Convert to, pick DWG or DXF and the oldest AutoCAD release that has to open the result. DWG: 2018, 2013, 2010, 2004, 2000. DXF: 2018, 2010, 2004, 2000.
- 3Under Save to, keep the converted copies next to each source file, or choose a folder (optionally with the same subfolder structure). Replace files that already exist is off by default, so a second run never overwrites earlier results.
- 4Click Convert. Progress shows as it goes and Cancel stops cleanly. Tick Check only to see what would change without writing any file.
- 5The list turns into the report: Converted, Converted with changes, Skipped or Failed for every file, with the details beside it. Copy Report puts it on the clipboard and Show in Folder opens the output.
Also included
Both directions, every version you need
Open DWG or DXF, write DWG (2000, 2004, 2010, 2013, 2018) or DXF (2000, 2004, 2010, 2018). One tool replaces opening each drawing in AutoCAD and choosing Save As.
An honest report instead of silent loss
Every file is written, read back and counted before it is kept. If anything could not be carried over, the report names the object types and how many, so you know before the drawing goes out. 3D solids, regions and tables are the ones to watch.
Safe by design
Your originals are never touched. Each result is written to a temporary file and only renamed when it reads back correctly, existing files are not replaced unless you ask, and a copy never takes the name of its own source.
Handles old DXF limits for you
DXF 2000 limits block names to 31 characters. When you save to that format, longer names are shortened in a predictable way (for example HOM_BED_JP_Semidouble_12_001) and the report lists every change.
Scenarios
A few of the situations DwgConvert is built for — if yours isn't listed, it's probably still covered by one of the tabs above.
Sending drawings to a client on an older AutoCAD
~3 hours → a few minutesBefore
A client or consultant still runs AutoCAD 2010 and cannot open the drawings you just finished. Re-saving each one by hand takes an afternoon.
After
Add the project folder, choose DWG 2010, convert. The whole set is saved with the same folder structure, ready to send.
Opening supplier DXF files in AutoCAD
~1 hour → a few minutesBefore
A supplier sends fifty DXF files. Opening each one to save it as DWG is slow, and online converters want you to upload them.
After
Drop the folder in, choose DWG, convert. Fifty DXF files become DWG files next to the originals, on your own computer.
Handing drawings to a CNC, laser or another CAD
~2 hours → a few minutesBefore
A cutting machine, a nesting program or another CAD package only reads DXF 2000 or 2004, and every DWG has to be exported one at a time.
After
Choose DXF and the version the machine wants, convert the folder in one go, and check the report for anything that did not carry over.
Environment & requirements
Everything that determines whether DwgConvert will run on your machine, and how it behaves once it does.

- Several drawings are converted at the same time; Settings → Performance sets how many.
- Every run shows progress and can be cancelled. Settings → Diagnostics → Open Log Folder opens the logs if something needs troubleshooting.

Why people choose DwgConvert
Three things worth knowing before you download.
A whole folder in one go
Drop in a folder, pick DWG or DXF and the AutoCAD version, and every drawing is converted — subfolders included, folder structure kept if you like.
Tells you what did not carry over
Each result is checked before it is kept, and the report names the few object types that could not be converted, such as 3D solids, regions or tables.
Free, and your drawings stay put
No file limit, no account, no AutoCAD needed. Originals are never changed and nothing is uploaded.
Convert DWG and DXF without AutoCAD: common questions
›Can I convert DWG to DXF without AutoCAD?
Yes. DwgConvert reads and writes the drawings itself, so AutoCAD does not have to be installed. Add files or a folder, choose DXF and a version, and convert.
›Which AutoCAD versions can I save to?
DWG 2000, 2004, 2010, 2013 and 2018, and DXF 2000, 2004, 2010 and 2018. The 2007 format is not offered. A drawing saved in a version opens in that AutoCAD release and every newer one.
›Is anything lost in the conversion?
Most drawings convert completely. Each result is checked before it is kept, and the report lists any object type that could not be carried over, such as 3D solids, regions or tables, with how many. Keep the original for those drawings.
›Are my original drawings changed?
No. The converted copies are written next to the originals or into a folder you choose, and an existing file is only replaced if you turn that on.
›Is it really free?
Yes. There is no Pro edition, no license key and no file limit, and the drawings never leave your computer.
