About the standard

The sign codes, meanings, shapes and colours follow the signs of the Chinese road traffic sign standard GB 5768 (road traffic signs and markings, part 2: road traffic signs). The standard has been revised and some signs differ between editions, so check the edition your project works to. The code is the series letter and the sign number, for example W1-1 for the crossroads warning sign.

The library is not an official publication and is not certified. It is meant for plans, schedules and legends; for signs that are made and put up on a road, use the sign drawings and the rules of the standard edition that applies to your project, and check sizes, sheeting classes and placement there.

How does it relate to the other signs of this series and to the other countries?

This library holds the guide signs (junctions, place names, expressway signs, toll and rescue signs) and the tourist signs; the signs that warn and give orders and the auxiliary plates are in the regulatory and warning library. Both use the same block conventions and can be used in the same drawing. For the signs of other countries see the UK, German, US and Vienna Convention libraries.

Can I use the symbols in commercial projects?

Yes. They are free to use and modify in your own projects, including commercial ones. They are provided as is, without warranty.

Why are the signs on colour layers, and will they plot in colour?

A road sign means something by its colour, so each sign is made of solid colour fills on its own layers. They plot in colour with a colour plot style. If you plot with a monochrome style the signs turn black and white; they stay recognisable, but you lose the colour meaning, so use a colour style for signing plans.

Can I change a symbol or add attributes?

Yes. Open the DWG, edit a block with BEDIT to change it or add attributes, and save. To update drawings that already contain the block, run ATTSYNC or replace the block. Make a backup first: attribute values can be lost if ATTSYNC is used carelessly.

Where do I find a ready-made set of these symbols for AutoCAD?

AutoCAD itself ships only a small set of sample blocks, so a full symbol set has to come from a library. Download the ZIP on this page and open the DWG: every symbol is a block. Insert one with INSERT (Blocks palette, Libraries tab, then pick the DWG) or drag it from DesignCenter (ADCENTER). You can also download a single symbol on its own.
