Free AutoCAD parallel pins (DWG) after ISO 2338: 0.6 to 50 mm, 2 to 200 mm long

Parallel pins: 260 ready-made AutoCAD blocks (DWG), free to download and use in your own projects, as a ZIP or one symbol at a time.

260 parallel pins as ready-to-use AutoCAD blocks at real size: the 20 nominal diameters of ISO 2338 from 0.6 to 50 mm, each in every nominal length of the commercial range, from 2 mm up to 200 mm, with the 15 degree end chamfers and the end view. Pins of unhardened steel and austenitic stainless steel, tolerance class m6 or h8.

Attributes for parts lists

The invisible attributes are DESIGNATION (for example 6 m6 x 30), STANDARD, TOLERANCE (m6, or h8 as agreed), MATERIAL (St for steel, A1 for stainless steel), FINISH, PART_NO, MANUFACTURER, QTY and REMARKS.

How to use the library

  1. Unzip the file and open the DWG. Copy the symbols you need into your plan, or drag the blocks in from DesignCenter (ADCENTER).
  2. The pins are drawn at real size in millimetres, 1 drawing unit = 1 mm: the side view with the end chamfers at about 15 degrees and, to the left of it, the end view with the outer circle and the chamfer circle. Insert them at 1:1; the scale of the drawing sheet does the rest.
  3. The insertion point is the left end of the pin axis, so a pin can be snapped to the centre line of a bore or a shaft and then rotated or mirrored to the position you need.
  4. The groups are the 20 nominal diameters. Each diameter holds the lengths that the table of the standard lists for it, for example 12 to 60 mm for a 6 mm pin and 95 to 200 mm for a 50 mm pin. Nominal lengths run through 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 and so on up to 200 mm.

About the standard

ISO 2338 specifies parallel pins of unhardened steel (hardness 125 to 245 HV30) and austenitic stainless steel (grade A1, 210 to 280 HV30) with nominal diameters from 0.6 to 50 mm. The standard gives the tolerance classes m6 (roughness Ra up to 0.8 micrometre) and h8 (Ra up to 1.6 micrometre), the chamfer length c for each diameter, and the commercial length range of each diameter. A pin is designated, for example, as Parallel pin ISO 2338 - 6 m6 x 30 - St.

The blocks are our own drawings from the dimension table, not copies, and the library is not certified. Lengths above 200 mm (in steps of 20 mm) and the optional end shapes of the standard figure are not drawn.

Frequently asked questions

Which lengths are included for each diameter?
All nominal lengths of the standard's commercial range. A 3 mm pin comes in lengths from 8 to 30 mm, a 10 mm pin from 18 to 95 mm, a 20 mm pin from 35 to 200 mm. The range of each diameter follows the stepped limits of table 1.
How do I write the designation of a pin?
As the standard does: Parallel pin ISO 2338 - 6 m6 x 30 - St, that is diameter, tolerance class, length and material (St for steel, A1 for stainless steel). The DESIGNATION attribute of each block holds the size part, for example 6 m6 x 30; change m6 to h8 in TOLERANCE if the pin is made to that class.
Can I use the symbols in commercial projects?
Yes. They are free to use and modify in your own projects, including commercial ones. They are provided as is, without warranty. Please do not redistribute or resell the library; see the library terms.
Are hardened pins and other pin types included?
No. This library holds the parallel pins of ISO 2338 only, of unhardened steel and austenitic stainless steel. Hardened pins, taper pins, spring pins and other types are not part of it.
Can I change a symbol or add attributes?
Yes. Open the DWG, edit a block with BEDIT to change it or add attributes, and save. To update drawings that already contain the block, run ATTSYNC or replace the block. Make a backup first: attribute values can be lost if ATTSYNC is used carelessly.
Where do I find a ready-made set of these symbols for AutoCAD?
AutoCAD itself ships only a small set of sample blocks, so a full symbol set has to come from a library. Download the ZIP on this page and open the DWG: every symbol is a block. Insert one with INSERT (Blocks palette, Libraries tab, then pick the DWG) or drag it from DesignCenter (ADCENTER). You can also download a single symbol on its own.
