Free AutoCAD flip-flop, counter and op amp symbols (DWG), IEC 60617-12 and -13 style
Flip-flops, multiplexers, op amps (IEC 60617): 87 ready-made AutoCAD blocks (DWG), free to download and use in your own projects, as a ZIP or one symbol at a time.
87 symbols as ready-to-use AutoCAD blocks, drawn after IEC 60617-12 and -13: open-circuit gates, buffers and Schmitt triggers, coders, converters, multiplexers and demultiplexers, adders, comparators and the arithmetic logic unit, delay elements, RS, JK and D bistables, monostables and astables, shift registers, counters, memories (ROM, PROM, RAM, FIFO), display elements, the terminal and qualifying symbols of analogue elements, amplifiers, operational amplifiers, converters, voltage regulators and comparators. The basic gates and the dependency notation are in the companion library of binary logic elements.
Using AutoCAD 2017 or an earlier version? Download the 2010 format
Free to use and modify in your own projects, including commercial ones. The ZIP holds one plain DWG file in AutoCAD 2018 format and a README; no add-in needed. Provided as is, without warranty.
IEC 60617 has several parts. The other libraries of the standard:
- Common electrical symbols (IEC 60617)
- Power system single-line symbols (IEC 60617)
- Electron tubes, crystals, delay lines (IEC 60617)
- Logic gate symbols (IEC 60617)
- Telephone, selectors, sound and recording (IEC 60617)
- Antennas, waveguides, modulation, filters and optical fibre (IEC 60617)
- Relays, protection and switching devices (IEC 60617)
- Machines, transformers, meters and symbol elements (IEC 60617)
- Busbar trunking, cable television, airfield lighting and connectors (IEC 60617)

Use the symbols across a whole drawing set
A symbol only helps when every drawing uses the same version of it.
- Open the DWG and copy the blocks you need into your drawing, or drag them in from DesignCenter. Insert them at scale 1; the README in this ZIP gives the drawing unit and the insertion point of each group.
- When a symbol changes later, replace the old block with the new one in every drawing in one run with BlockCopy, instead of opening each file.
- To count symbols or list their attributes across many drawings, export them to Excel with BlockSync and build a pivot table from the result.

Attributes for parts lists
The devices carry a visible reference (U1) and invisible attributes: FUNCTION, PART_NO, PIN_NUMBERS, MANUFACTURER and REMARKS. Every block also stores the entry number of the standard (STD_CLAUSE, for example IEC 60617-12 12-42-03) and its database number (STD_REF) as invisible attributes, so you can look the symbol up in the standard.
Because the data sit in attributes, you can export the devices of a project to Excel with BlockSync, build a parts list, check it and write the corrections back in one run, with preview and backup.
How to use the library
- Unzip the file and open the DWG. Copy the symbols you need into your plan, or drag the blocks in from DesignCenter (ADCENTER).
- The symbols are drawn at plotted size in millimetres on a 2.5 mm module: text 3 mm high, pin pitch 5 mm. Insert them at the scale of your drawing, for example scale 2 on a 1:2 drawing.
- Devices are boxes: insert them at the centre. Add pins by copying a connection line, and keep the three dots when a group of pins repeats. The terminal and qualifying symbols of the analogue elements are fragments of an element outline; their insertion point is the free end of the connection line.
- Replace the general letters of a block by the real labels of your device: the m and k of a pin group, the asterisk of the generic symbols, the title letters (for example SRGm becomes SRG8). Edit the text after exploding the block.
About IEC 60617-12 and -13
IEC 60617 is the international standard for graphical symbols for diagrams. Part 12 covers binary logic elements and part 13 analogue elements; both use rectangular symbols with qualifying symbols inside and at the connections. This library follows the figures for the general symbols and the common functional blocks. It does not contain the large device examples with a full set of pin numbers, and a few figures that could not be read with certainty were left out.
These symbols are our own drawings after the figures of the standard. They are not copied from it, and the library is not certified against it. Check them against the standard, your company standard or your customer’s legend before you rely on a shape.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I draw a JK or D flip-flop?
- Use the blocks “JK bistable, edge-triggered” or “D bistable, edge-triggered”. They show the inputs with the dynamic wedge, the reset input and the outputs. Add set and reset pins by copying a connection line, and replace the labels if your device uses other names.
- Where are the basic AND, OR and NAND gates?
- In the companion library of binary logic elements: the basic logic elements, the qualifying symbols and the dependency notation. This library continues from the compound gates, drivers, converters and functional blocks.
- Can I use the symbols in commercial projects?
- Yes. They are free to use and modify in your own projects, including commercial ones. They are provided as is, without warranty.
- Are complete circuits with pin numbers included?
- No. The large device examples of the standard, with a full set of pin numbers, are not in this library. Build them from the general symbols here and fill in PIN_NUMBERS and PART_NO of the element.
- Can I change a symbol or add attributes?
- Yes. Open the DWG, edit a block with BEDIT to change it or add attributes, and save. To update drawings that already contain the block, run ATTSYNC or replace the block. Make a backup first: attribute values can be lost if ATTSYNC is used carelessly.
- Where do I find a ready-made set of these symbols for AutoCAD?
- AutoCAD itself ships only a small set of sample blocks, so a full symbol set has to come from a library. Download the ZIP on this page and open the DWG: every symbol is a block. Insert one with INSERT (Blocks palette, Libraries tab, then pick the DWG) or drag it from DesignCenter (ADCENTER). You can also download a single symbol on its own.
Count the symbols and build a parts list
Because ratings and part numbers are attributes, the symbols of a whole project can be counted and listed without opening the drawings. Export the blocks to Excel, total them with a pivot table and write corrections back in one run, with preview and backup.
See how to count blocks with BlockSync
